A close observer of the imported nutritional supplements market in Egypt will discover that approximately 99% of imported vitamins and nutritional supplements available in the Egyptian market are, in fact, counterfeit and non-original products. And because nutritional supplements are health products directly related to our health and lives, it is important to make every possible effort to obtain safe and beneficial products.

Why should we look for an original product?

Counterfeit products are not low-quality products, or products issued by the manufacturing company but of lower quality or lower concentrations as many people think, but in reality, they are products completely unrelated to the manufacturing company and are manufactured in any warehouse or garage without any supervision. The danger of counterfeit products is summarized as follows:

They may not contain any active ingredients, but only filler materials such as gypsum or tile powder.

They may contain poor-quality active ingredients, in very high concentrations to achieve a result – and these are extremely dangerous as they can cause fatal side effects.

They may contain active ingredients that are alternatives to the original ingredients, for example, joint and bone medications contain very high concentrations of poor-quality pain relievers.

They always contain many impurities that may cause allergies or be harmful to the point of death.

How do we detect counterfeit products?

Do not believe anyone who tells you that a barcode is proof of an original product. The barcode, serial number, or QR code’s function is merely to facilitate inventory management. All counterfeiters copy the barcode and serial number as they are and it is impossible for them to change them. All counterfeit products have a correct barcode and a correct serial number.

Some counterfeit products have no original product; they are products manufactured in Egypt from scratch and have no original version – beware of them and beware of those who sell them.

You can never trust anyone who sells a counterfeit product.

You can never trust anyone who doesn’t know the source of their products.

Products whose price is cheaper than their price in the country of origin are definitely counterfeit products – original products are very expensive due to purchase, shipping, storage, customs clearance, releases, and other costs.

How do we say a product is counterfeit?

A product not manufactured by the producing company – such as Dr. Berg’s magnesium oil product, as the manufacturing company does not produce it at all and it is not on their website, so it is certainly counterfeit.

A product that has no origin such as Vitarm, Harva, Slim Shape, and dozens of other products that have no origin.

A product with an old design that has been out of production for a long time – such as Natrol’s crimson products whose design has been changed – the manufacturing company used to package its products in crimson containers, then changed the color of the containers to blue in 2018, and they are still sold in Egypt with the old crimson design.

Any product sold at a price lower than its price in the country of origin or close to its price in the country of origin.

All imported products from a foreign country and written in Arabic – these countries do not write in Arabic on their packaging.

All imported products with an Egyptian phone number written on them to verify the authenticity of the product.
